We are so appreciative and overwhelmed by the vast outpouring of support, prayers and love you have shown for Barbara.

Our first priority is to find a bone marrow match as soon as possible and by the end of July. Because we are under strict time pressures, we are opting to focus on getting potential donors tested via a blood test.

Who is the ideal prospective donor? Individuals with a mix of Japanese, Japanese Okinawan and Chinese ancestry are the ideal match. The donor bank for this particular profile is extremely low, so please help us spread the word. We are so deeply grateful.

What should a prospective donor do? Please email matchforbarbara@gmail.com with your contact information (name, email address, phone number, ethnicity, gender). You will be contacted should follow up be required.

Should I still register via a public drive if I am not an ideal prospective donor? Yes. We want to encourage everyone to register to increase Barbara’s chances of finding a match. Registering only takes 10 minutes and requires no blood, just a simple cotton swab of the mouth. To find out more about the bone marrow transplant process, please see here.

Here are 2 easy ways to register:

    1. In Person — Attend a Drive.

When you come to a donor drive, a representative will explain what it means to become a donor, help you understand your commitment, answer your questions and help you through the process. You will then give a small blood sample or swab of cheek cells to be tested for your tissue type, and this information is added to the Registry.

      (information coming soon)
    • What To Do/Bring
All you need to do is: (1) complete a registration form with contact information, healthy history questions and a signed agreement to join the registry and (2) give either a swab of cheek cells or a blood sample so your tissue type can be tested. To help you complete the form, bring along: (a) personal identification (such as a driver’s license or passport), (b) contact information for two family members or friends who would know how to reach you in the future if your address changes.

    2. Home Mail Kit

If you are a minority in the US, you can order a test kit here.
